Capturing Today's Moments: Creating Tomorrow's Memories

November 2009 - Daily Photo
Read MoreNovember 23, 2009 - Emily and the instructor from the Moscow Ballets The Nutcracker. She danced in the Arabian Coffee Dance on Sunday with the Moscow Ballet
I wasn't allowed to take many photos of Em on Sunday. They were EXTREMELY strict about photography due to costume and scenery design concerns. I did manage a few backstage however. It was an amazing experience for Emily and I am so grateful that I was able to share it backstage with her. There were about 9 kids her age that myself and another Mom were watching during the first show. Fantastic kids - and the other Mom was equally as wonderful. She is also a "photo-bug". So we had a lot to talk about.
I am not even sure I can acurately describe the experience. The Russian dancers were nothing short of awe-inspiring. The beauty, grace, strength they possess is something I have never seen in person before. The stage Moms were allowed to stand way back in the wings while our group of kids were performing - that alone is something I will never forget.
The lady in the photo with Emily has to be one of the most beautiful women I have ever encountered. She was extremely strict and demanding of the kids, but yet she was so kind and encouraging at the same time. Her love of dance and drive to get the best from them was obvious.
Before she allowed them to perform she made them do barre work. I stood there amazed as she did it right along with them. I am not sure of her age - but I was shocked and not merely a bit envious at the way she could move her body.
When Emily performed the last show of the run we were in the audience - 4 rows back - dead center. I couldn't help but cry and I felt as if my entire being was going to explode with pride. Even though it was a bit embarassing for me, I couldn't seem to stop myself from leaning over to the lady sitting beside me and saying "that is my daughter" when Emily came on stage.
She will be auditioning again next year - the last year she will be eligble before she turns 18. Ian and I have already decided - next year it will be VIP tickets so we can be dead center - hopefully FRONT row. :)
If you get a chance to see The Moscow Ballet perform the Great Russian Nutcracker - please do so. It is a truly incredible experience. 97 students ages 7-16 from 23 studios across the Dallas/Ft.Worth metroplex were able to perform with them. They do this at each of the cities they perform in. The gift they give to our children is reason enough to spend the money to see them. The experience really is - a precious gift... for the students and their very proud parents.

on November 24, 2009Great portrait of the two of them. I can imagine your pride. We'll be going to the Colorado Ballet's version of the Nutcracker to see my granddaughter dance. She is 12 and I think this is her fifth year of dancing in the show. Is Emily planning to be a professional dancer? She must be extremely good, based on the shots I've seen of her dancing. Our daughters started taking ballet when we lived in Richardson.
