June 4, 2009 rose of sharon buds
I have been so bored with my photography lately. Am I the only one that gets this way? I just feel in a total rut - no creativity - not much desire to really pick up my camera. I feel like everything I have been doing looks the same... and I have no idea how to get past it. This has been going on for a few months now. Occassionally I will get a shot that I really like (the dance photo yesterday) - but for the most part everything I am doing just makes me yawn.
I just don't feel challenged anymore. Maybe going on vacation will help.
Any ideas?

on June 7, 2009Such pretty light you captured here! I'm sorry you're bored with your photography but I think that happens to all of us at one time or another. I'll take lots of shots and then later delete every single one. Somewhere I read a tip from a pro (perhaps it was Ansel Adams?) who said don't press the shutter until you see that *ah-ha* moment in the viewfinder. Thought it was excellent advice.
I wanted to personally thank you for your comment on my beach photo from a couple of days ago. It meant so very much to me, coming from you, whose work I greatly admire. The ocean is where I feel most at peace, and maybe that's coming through in my photos...hope so, anyway. Thank you for boosting my confidence in my ability to capture its beauty!

on June 6, 2009I think that happens to many of us, specially if we are on the dailies challenge. When I started with my dailies just a few months ago it was great because it made me look at things differently and it made me "see photos" where I had never seen them before, even in my reduced environment (home and my daily walk with my dog). But it gets to a point that it seems that you have already taken a photo of everything and it becomes a bit boring, yes. My suggestion, because I will be doing the same shortly, is to go out but leave the camera at home to see how you feel without it and if you miss it and how much. In situations like this I always use the same example: My favourite food is shrimp, but if I eat shrimp everyday for lunch and dinner surely I'll get tired of shrimp, anyone would. So, forget about your camera at least for a few days.
BTW, I do agree that your photo of the dancers is a really great one. Very good "shrimp" but still "shrimp" ;-)

on June 4, 2009Very beautiful lighting and great detail! Love it!
I do also get to the point where I'm bored with my shots. It happens fairly often with me (maybe I just have boring shots :) For me it helps to go somewhere I haven't been in a while and/or try different kinds of shots (ex: macro, B&W, etc) for a while.

on June 4, 2009Take your camera and go to Disney World ..... oh, you're already doing that! I think we all go through that and, luckily, it usually goes away and creativity returns. Hang in there. This is gorgeous, btw -- the love the light!
