August 8, 2010 I spent the majority of the late afternoon and evening in the back of this yesterday (the police dept was in the front). Our small city was named the 24th best small town to live in by Money Magazine. So yesterday we had a "Celebrate Rowlett" Festival in downtown. There was live music, free hot dogs and many vendors and concessions. The festival ended with fireworks. All in all it was a really nice celebration. AND - sooo nice that I was able to be inside the mobile command post - it was HOT yesterday. I was in the air conditioning doing paperwork and sometimes running water to our radio operators who were doing perimeter control (to keep everyone safely away from the area the pyro guys were setting up in) and fire watch as the fireworks were being set off.
