This is my husbands ham radio set-up - at least the one in the house. He also has a mobile radio in his SUV as well as a hand held he carries during events. Ike still hasn't come this far north. The latest projected path has the storm staying well east of us thanks to a cold front coming through. It's a good thing, but at the same time kind of disappointing. When you train so hard and so often for an event like this and then have it projected to hit you only to find out when it actually get close that it won't... kind of disappointing. My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Galveston and Houston. We are currently monitoring their skywarn net with the radio pictured above.

on September 13, 2008Cool gear. I have to agree with Bill on be careful what you wish for. I made it through on when was in the military. I lived through Isabel her. The worst is the aftermath of the storms. Here is wishing everyone well.

on September 13, 2008Hey Hey Jennifer !!! How's it going? Thanks for the well wishes during my illness, all of your support was much appreciated. Now onto your image (more actually of your caption) There is one thing I learned over my 16 year career as a cop - Be VERY CAREFUL for what you wish for, Especially when it comes to Mother Nature & Natural Disasters! I know the feeling of having hard training sitting on your lap for these things but believe me it is MUCH better that the storm go FAR FAR Away from you and your community. Too many times I would sit in the radio car wishing something would kick off, BAD MOVE on my part, 3 of those times I was almost murdered accounting for 2 on the job shootings and then a broken back & career ending spinal injury I live with everyday of my life & every pain in my body reminding me of those terrible words "I'm bored I wish something would go down already" LOL !!! Stay Home, Stay Safe and work on your art, it's MUCH safer and you don't have to worry Losing your house or your life! When the day comes you'll be that much more prepared ;) Hope all is well & Thanks for stopping by the site today :) ~Bill~

on September 13, 2008We use to listen to have CB radios. My son once got in touch with someone in Egypt. They sure can be fun. We mainly used it for safety and since the cell phone don't use them anymore. That storm is pretty scary, the weather says it's as big as the state of Texas and that's big.
